Church of the Eternal God - Question and Answer

Q: Does the Bible prohibit eating a mixture of milk and meat?

Published: February 20th, 2004

It does not. However, there are some who believe and teach that certain Scriptures prohibit such a practice. They mainly turn to Exodus 23:19, which states: "The first of the firstfruits of your land you shall bring into the house of the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk."

The identical prohibition is repeated in Exodus 34:26. We also find the following prohibition in Deuteronomy 14:21:

"You shall not eat anything that dies of itself; you may give it to the alien who is within your gates, that he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner; for you are a holy people to the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk."

Q: What Parts of Clean Animals are We Forbidden to eat?

Published: September 17th, 2004

The Bible says specifically which animals we may eat, and which we must not eat. A list of those "clean" and "unclean" animals can be found in several places, including in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14. According to the Bible, such "popular" animals as pigs or swine, hares, rabbits, lobsters, shellfish, shark, or clams, are labeled "unclean" and are not to be eaten -- even today.

In addition, the Bible specifically points out that we are not to eat blood or fat, even from clean animals. Leviticus 7:23-27 states:

Q: Are we forbidden to eat the meat of "unclean" animals?

The Bible is very clear that humans are not to eat the flesh of animals which God designates as "unclean." Comprehensive lists of clean and unclean animals can be found in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14. When studying those lists, it is obvious that the following animals are "unclean" and that its flesh is inappropriate for human consumption (even though they might be frequently eaten in certain parts of the world, and even considered as "delicacies"): Pigs or swine; hares or rabbits; camels; horses; donkeys; lamas; civet cats; monkeys and apes; cats; dogs; ostriches (including their eggs); seagulls; swallows; whales; dolphins; sharks; catfish; eel; lobsters; crabs; clams; oysters; shrimp; shellfish; octopus; squid; frogs; snakes; lizards; turtles; mice and ants. This list is not

Q: Would you please explain which animals are clean (and may be eaten) and which are unclean (and must not be eaten)?

The Bible clearly prohibits the consumption of animal meat which it describes as "unclean" in Old and New Testament passages (such as Leviticus 11:1-47; Deuteronomy 14:3-20; and Acts 10:1-21, 28).
