A Fallen Woman

In Revelation 17, we read that John sees a fallen woman who sits on a scarlet-colored beast with seven heads and ten horns. This woman is identified as “the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication” (Revelation 19:2). You will see in this sermon that this woman is directly associated with the first beast (a political and military power covered in Part 1 of our series), and in fact, this “woman” is the very second beast (a religious power) that will enforce the mark of the first beast on the inhabitants of the earth, with those refusing paying by penalty of death (as covered in Part 2 of our series).

The great city on seven hills

In Revelation 17:18 we read, “And the woman whom you saw is that GREAT CITY which reigns over the kings of the earth.” She is identified not only as an actual CITY, but the seven mountains or hills also represent the seven last resurrections of the Roman Empire. Verse 9, “Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits.” Verse 10 explains that the seven mountains or hills symbolize seven kings – seven military and political rulers. They describe the seven last resurrections of the ancient Roman Empire, and the last king or revival of the Roman Empire will be appearing in the very near future.

Preparing for what is ahead

We are told that the things written in the book of Revelation will shortly come to pass (Revelation 22:6). We are admonished to be mindful of the prophecy of the book of Revelation (Revelation 22:7) and to be righteous and holy (Revelation 22:11). Only those who endure to the very end shall be saved (Matthew 10:22) by a returning Jesus Christ (Revelation 22:20).
